The Katsina State House of Assembly has begins its budget defence session for the 2024 fiscal year.

 The session, which commenced on Thursday, brought together members of the executive arm and other stakeholders to discuss and analyze the proposed budget. 

While speaking, the House committee chairman on appropropriation, Hon. Lawal Hm Yaro said the state lawmakers are determined to ensure transparency and accountability in the budgetary process, as they will meticulously examine each component of the proposed budget. 

The budget defence session provides an opportunity for the various ministries, departments, and agencies to present their budget proposals, highlighting their financial needs and priorities for the coming year.

The House of Assembly has set up various committees to conduct the budget review process, with each committee responsible for scrutinizing specific sectors. These committees will analyze the proposed allocations, question officials on the necessity of certain expenditures, and propose any necessary adjustments to ensure that funds are allocated appropriately.

The chairman emphasized the importance of thorough scrutiny of the budget, stating that the assembly is committed to ensuring that the budget reflects the needs of the people and promotes development in the state. 

He urged the various stakeholders to provide accurate and detailed information during the defence sessions to facilitate informed decision-making.

The event has  in attendance lawmakers, the chairmen and members of various committees, government officials, journalist, among others. 

The budget defence session will continue for several days, allowing ample time for detailed discussions and deliberations.
